You need 3 slots worth of parts, 9 slots worth of components and 11 slots worth of wood. Your goal is to collect 21 wood & at least 13 parts (preferably 23)& fill the rest of your inventory slots with meds/vegetables/components. The rest can be used to fill up on food, meds and trade goods. You need another slot for weapon parts and maybe 1 for parts, and 1 more to return the hatchet for day 4, which is 17 spoken for slots over 2 nights. You need 9 slots worth of components and 6 slots worth of wood over 2 nights of scavenging. Once you have the hatchet, you have enough wood to board up all the walls. Ruined Flats, Decrepit Squat, St Mary's Church and Sniper Junction are also good). Hopefully the Saw allowed you to break into a place with lots of weapon parts (Garage is the best place for this, especially if you're willing to bring along a lockpick and steal from the family. You need to loot at least 36 components, 5 parts, 5 weapon parts & 12 wood over 2 nights. 1 slot will be taken up by trade goods, 1 slot by meds (resist the urge to grab food on night 1 as you don't need them yet) which gives you at least 2 slots to get a jumpstart on the next night (especially to make sure the parts and weapon parts quota is filled). Generally, only 5 or 6 slots are needed to fill this night's quota. I scavenge what I need to make up 32 components, 15 wood, 5 parts & 1 weapon part & fill rest of inventory with food/meds. I almost always start scavenging the decrepit squat, bringing 1 raw food + 1 crowbar. I don't build a shovel since digging by hand is doable and the resources are needed to keep the build order going. I've been trying to figure out a build order that helps you get on your feet the fastest. The man at the garage says he wants bandages and medicine for his father. My optimized build order (don't read unless you want the game spoiled). The military outpost has suggested they prefer booze and cigarettes.(Those are values from single playthrough before update, yet to comfirm to be stable) Franko's exchange rate seems to be close to 0.83, garage - 0.75, military outpost - 0.71, hospital - 0.62 water for components, shows that traders seek for certain profit, not just equal trade. Trading in large amounts of similarly priced items, e.g. The news and weather forecasts on the Radio give a good indication of which items are currently highly valued (for example, Fuel, Components and Wood become more valuable when it is cold). Note 2: The value of certain Items can vary over time based on supply and demand. If you aren't desperate for a certain item, it may be worth it to shop around to see what you can get. In one Location, the Hotel trader can offer as many as 32 Components for a single Moonshine, compared to Franko's offer of 10 Components. Note: Different characters may value certain Items more highly than others. See List of Items for tradable objects or Item Values to see the list of values. There's no currency, so you'll have to arrange a barter. Interacting with them opens UI containig your invenory and their trade inventory. In This War Of Mine there are options for trading, when you encounter other survivors/military some of them might be open for trade.
